New Zealand Symphony Orchestra 2014 Season
Step away from the everyday world and let your imagination take flight with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
Collaborating with giants of the conducting world and stunning international soloists, our 2014 season is crowded with wonderful orchestral masterpieces as well as incredible contemporary music from home and abroad.
Maestros like Edo de Waart and Alexander Lazarev will lead the orchestra in performing vast, impressive works such as Mahler’s 9th and Shostakovich’s 15th symphonies. Our NZSO Music Director Pietari Inkinen will display his remarkable abilities conducting two cycles of Beethoven’s nine symphonies, with each cycle played over four nights. The final symphony will include a stunning line-up of international opera stars, ensuring an unforgettable climax to this beloved masterpiece.
Experienced virtuosos such as Håkan Hardenberger – rated as the greatest trumpeter alive – and the extraordinary pianist Alexander Melnikov will join the mix, along with new stars of the classical world including American cello prodigy Alisa Weilerstein and Simone Lamsma, one of the world’s leading violinists.
