Auckland Live Pick & Mix: Whales

No longer available

Aotea Centre, Bruce Mason Centre

Family & Kids

Registration for Auckland Live Pick & Mix: Whales at Aotea Centre on Saturday is now closed as we have reached full capacity. However there are still some audience tickets available for the Bruce Mason Centre performance on Sunday (bookings are still essential).

Enjoy this multi-award-winning interactive experience Whales, by Binge Culture, in which children work together to rescue a pod of stranded whales and send them safely home to sea.

Workshop: A rescue mission workshop will be held before the performance.

Please note numbers are limited for this event, so bookings are essential.

About the company
Binge Culture is a collective of Wellington-based artists working to reimagine theatre to place emphasis on creating communities. They believe in the power of humour, immediacy, and the risk and reward that comes with experimentation. Their work happens in theatres and public spaces to forge new ways of engaging with audiences.

Whales

Whales are the biggest creatures ever to inhabit the earth - bigger even than dinosaurs! In this workshop practice swimming like majestic whales. In the performance the whales will strand, and be cared for by a group of volunteers. Whale performers need to be OK with being touched on the back by others and having water poured on them.

Whales Response Team

The whales need your help! We will train you in how to care for stranded whales and you will get a chance to practice this in the performance that follows by caring for the whale performers.

Audience
Learn some whale facts, how to care for a stranded whale and sing a whale song! Following this workshop, you will get to watch the performance of a whale stranding and sing to the whales to keep them calm and comfortable. This workshop is suitable for people who prefer to watch, rather than be hands-on.

Please note: if you book for Whales or Whales Response Team roles you’ll need to bring along a towel and something warm and dry to put on afterwards. Whales will need to bring your own wet suit or rash vest and leggings as well as shoes that can get wet. Whales Response Team need to wear clothes and shoes that you didn’t mind getting wet. These roles will be required to arrive 30 minutes early for preparation at 10am.

Auckland Live Pick & Mix is part of our fantastic family programme, Auckland Live Kids Play.
