Stark’s Café and Bar

Stark’s Café and Bar

Stark’s Café and Bar has a new team, a fresh look and the doors are open to offer daytime and showtime treats.

Daytime

Stark's is open Tuesday to Friday from 8.00am and Saturday from 4.00pm. Drop by in the morning for Caffe L’Affare coffee and breakfast bite.

Make your business meeting a little more interesting with a cup of tea from a vintage cup and saucer and a sweet treat.
Enjoy the lunchtime cabinet selections from filled baguettes, croissants and bagels to the lunch dish of the day.

Showtime

Stark’s is a place to meet - after work, before a show or when you’re winding down your night.
There are some special cocktails on the menu and the team are working hard to make Stark’s a great place to visit.

Stark's will remain open late and during weekends if there is a show at The Civic

Stark's Cafe and Bar

Behind the name

Stark’s Café and Bar is named after Freda Beatrice Stark. During World War II, she worked for the Colonial Ammunition Factory by day and danced at the cabaret and nightclub at The Civic’s Wintergarden by night.

There are many scandalous stories about Freda - the most often told is about one of her dancing costumes comprised of a g-string, a feathered headdress and gold body paint. No wonder she was nicknamed the Fever of the Fleet by the American troops.
