Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra promises a selection of outstanding music played by some of the world’s finest musicians for its 2012 season.
Among the many highlights are appearances by the world’s leading percussionist, Dame Evelyn Glennie, who travels to New Zealand in August to perform a work written for her by Christopher Rouse. Before then, however, the APO entertains one of the superstars of New York’s Metropolitan Opera, soprano Deborah Voigt, who next July sings works by Richards Strauss and Wagner.
Other standouts from a packed programme include the Westpac Opera in Concert performance of Verdi’s Nabucco with APO Music Director Eckehard Stier (17 August); and, in October, APO Principal Guest Conductor Roy Goodman leading the orchestra and a cast of top singers through Bach’s great masterpiece, the Mass in B minor.
