Welcome to a new kind of banking service – one with mood rather than money as its currency.
Businesses are increasingly discovering the commercial value in finding out how happy we are. Are they are failing however, to acknowledge the full diversity and rich complexity of our moods? How do we really feel?
Visitors to the Aotea Centre during June and July are invited to deposit their mood at the Moodbank ATM located at the Box Café. It provides users with an index of over 1000 moods to select from, and the ability to deposit their mood. A live visualisation of these mood trends will be displayed on the Digital Art Live screen on Level 2 of the Aotea Centre.
Moodbank Aotea aims to provoke debate regarding which emotions are considered valid and valuable in contemporary society. By mimicking and subverting the visual language of a bank, Moodbank draws attention to the processes in which our feelings become commercially valuable, proposing a communal experience rather than an economic form of exchange.
