APO dedicates online performance to frontline heroes
The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO) continues to deliver orchestral magic from inside the musicians’ bubbles. Today, members of the APO have come together – online – to deliver a special performance dedicated to New Zealand’s essential and frontline workers.
Please enjoy the video here:
The piece is Bizet’s Farandole from L'Arlésienne: Suite No.2.
In the video, they say:
“We miss being able to perform on stage for our audiences, so we’ve made this short video.
We want to dedicate this to all of our frontline workers providing essential services; nurses, doctors, care workers, supermarket and shop workers, public transport, emergency services personnel, couriers and postal workers, and everyone who is working through this period, keeping New Zealanders safe.
This is for you. Kia kaha.”
APO CEO, Barbara Glaser says, “For many New Zealanders, this week’s move to Level 3 brought a slight breath of fresh air – while things haven’t changed in regards to our bubbles, small freedoms have been welcomed by many New Zealanders.
“However, we are deeply aware that those on the frontline aren’t able to take their focus off the larger goal in the battle against COVID-19. We wanted them to know that we continue to applaud them for their courage and their tireless mahi in keeping the rest of us safe. We know music can bring joy and we hope this does exactly that.”
