The Royal New Zealand Ballet

20 Aug - 12 Dec 2020

Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre, Aotea Centre; Bruce Mason Centre

The Royal New Zealand Ballet’s 2020 season will bring you dance that delights you, moves you, starts conversations and brings people together, inspiring you to see ballet with fresh eyes.

Ease out of the winter darkness and experience Venus Rising at the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre from 17 – 19 September. See 27 dancers spin in an ocean of light in a work by Twyla Tharp and celebrate the beauty of the broken with award-winning Aurum by Alice Topp. Enjoy a fresh take on ballet in contemporary works by Andrea Schermoly and Aotearoa’s own Sarah Foster-Sproull. Glowing and hopeful, this is a celebration of new beginnings and extraordinary dance.

The RNZB’s family production for Christmas 2020 is the quintessential classical ballet, The Ryman Healthcare Season of The Sleeping Beauty. The grandest of fairy tales, luxuriating in Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous score performed live by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, it spills over with fairies, woodland sprites, handsome princes and, at its heart, an enchanting princess. Enjoy this festive magic at the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre from 3 - 6 December, and at the Bruce Mason Centre from 11 – 12 December.
