Auckland Arts Festival

7 Mar - 24 Mar

Aotea Centre, Aotea Square; Auckland Town Hall; The Civic

Taking place each March, Auckland Arts Festival fills Auckland Live venues with an exceptional line-up of theatre, dance, music, circus and cabaret shows from New Zealand and around the globe set to inspire, provoke and entertain.

A globally recognised celebration of art and culture, Auckland Arts Festival is a place for ambitious ideas by storytellers, provocateurs and creators and reflects our contemporary, cosmopolitan city with its many communities.

Opening the 2019 Festival is a free music concert Tira featuring iconic waiata and you’re invited to join in. Komische Oper Berlin’s stunning production of Mozart’s masterpiece The Magic Flute mixes innovative animation with live opera performance; naughty cabaret show Blanc de Blanc bring glitter and glamour to the Spiegeltent in Aotea Square, while music concerts include Beach House, Death Cab for Cutie and Camille O’Sullivan ‘Cave’. Gravity-defying acrobatics test the limits of mind, body and soul in Backbone, Shakespeare is transformed in The Dreamer and revolutionary choreographer Hofesh Shechter’s Grand Finale is a “wild waltz for the end of time”.
