A Feminist Reimagining of Thelma & Louise is Coming to The Civic Stage This July

Published: Thursday 6 June 2024

Aotearoa’s leading subversive and anarchic theatre-makers and collaborators, Julia Croft and Nisha Madhan return to the Auckland stage with Thelma and Louise Don’t Die, a mad, entertaining, and utterly joyful new work in their trademark provocative style.

Generously supported by Auckland Live and Creative New Zealand, this intelligent and humorous reimagining of the iconic film is a feminist theatrical examination of the classic road trip movie, splitting the film’s threads into a dreamscape of images and half recognised Americana, all while ascending to the stars in a life-sized 1970s Triumph.

Thelma and Louise Don’t Die premieres on the stage at The Civic with all the drama and spectacle of a full-on festival show.  Join us in this unmissable immersive experience and witness two women running from something, looking for something else, teetering on the edge of the cliff of existence, while their worlds fall apart around them.

Experience the adventure of two real-life best friends on an unforgettable road trip, set to a classic soundtrack, with the powerful message that all you need is to hold on to your best friend and take the leap together into the unknown.

Thelma and Lousie Don’t Die hits Auckland for three nights only from 4 - 6 July.
