Meet The Cast: The Worm

Published: Monday 3 April 2023

Get ready for one of the cleverest, funniest, utterly absurd shows, The Worm, as it returns to stage these April School Holidays thanks to Nightsong and Auckland Live. Follow the delightfully epic tale of a little worm who goes on an exciting adventure to save his mother, meeting a cast full of critters and creatures along the way.

Now, sit back and meet the cast of garden creatures.

You may recognise her from the likes of Wild Dogs Under My Skirt and Every Brilliant Thing, the incomparable and powerhouse creative Anapela Polata’ivao returns once more as the brilliant Blind Rat this month in The Worm!

You saw him in Te Pō and last year’s performance of The Worm, he just can't get enough of working with Nightsong and now Auckland theatre’s favourite Brit Andrew Grainger is back to reprise his role as The Cockroach and The Flower Bulb in The Worm.

Albert has just finished up filming his first Disney+ series - The Artful Dodger in Aussie. Now, he’s back in Tāmaki Makaurau to take the starring role of the young worm. Come watch him dance the worm before he gets snapped up by the big birds of Disney again.

You may have seen her in Educators, Nude Tuesday or in Shortland Street. She’s always dreamt of playing a snail and her dream are finally coming true with Nightsong’s production of The Worm.

Yvette says, "I love snails, and I’m less inclined to put slug pellets out. It’s an awful death."

Last but certainly not least, the brilliant and inimitable Semu Filipo (Next Goal Wins, The Justice of Bunny King) also joins the cast of The Worm - he'll be wriggling his way into the theatre as the Old Worm!

The Worm not only features an original music score composed by iconic Kiwi band Carnivorous Plant Society but will host two of the talented band members live on stage for each performance - they'll have you dancing the worm! 🎵
