“We can’t wait for this opportunity to come together and celebrate New Zealand’s outstanding artists, and the arts in Aotearoa!. It feels particularly special to be gathering at The Aotea Centre; a landmark of creativity in Tāmaki Makaurau and a place that has housed so much of our artists mahi over the years. Personally, this will be my first Laureate Party as Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi kaiwhakahaere / General Manager, and I’m excited to connect with our artist, givers and everyone else who has come along to see what’s going on for the arts in 2022.”   Jessica Palalagi - Kaiwhakahaere/GM

BACKGROUND

Since 2000, the Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi Laureate awards have celebrated New Zealand’s greatest artists across the disciplines. Every year, The Arts Foundation recognise up to ten exceptional artists with a $30,000 award, and share their story with New Zealand.

An Arts Foundation Laureate is an artist that is outstanding in their field, and is having impact on their community or practise. This year, seven new artists will be welcomed into the fold – joining a Laureate whānau of 113 household names.  This year’s line-up also includes the inaugural Toi Kō Iriri Queer Laureate; an outstanding artist having a monumental impact on our queer arts communities.
