Following record-breaking runs in London and New York, the global phenomenon Heathers the Musical arrives in New Zealand.
10 – 14 June, 2026 | The Civic
Pre-sales launch today, with all remaining seats up for grabs from 9am Wednesday, as the high-octane black comedy rock musical – based on the cult 1989 film starring Wynona Ryder and Christian Slater – makes its professional New Zealand premiere in 2026.
Following smash hit seasons in London and New York, this killer comedy is set to take over Christchurch from 15 May, Wellington from 28 May, and Auckland from 10 June, as part of a major Australia–New Zealand tour.
Welcome to Westerberg High, where popularity is a matter of life and death. Veronica Sawyer is just another nobody dreaming of a better day — until she’s unexpectedly taken under the wings of the beautiful and cruel Heathers. But when mysterious teen rebel J.D. arrives, Veronica soon learns it might kill to be a nobody, but it’s murder being a somebody.
With a mercilessly catchy mix of ballads and bangers by award-winning writers Kevin Murphy (Desperate Housewives) and Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde The Musical), Heathers the Musical is directed by acclaimed American screen and stage director Andy Fickman.
Since its sold-out Los Angeles premiere in 2013 and New York debut in 2014, Heathers has gone on to three smash-hit West End seasons, multiple sold-out UK and Ireland tours, and a 2019 WhatsOnStage Award win for Best New Musical. In 2022, it was filmed and streamed globally via The Roku Channel. Most recently, the show smashed records at New York’s New World Stages, opening in June 2025 to the biggest advance sale in the venue’s history and immediately extending due to demand.
Heathers the Musical is produced by Bill Kenwright Ltd, Paul Taylor-Mills in partnership with GMG Productions and Stoddart Entertainment. GMG Productions is renowned for bringing high-calibre international productions to the Asia Pacific, including recent New Zealand smash-hits The Play That Goes Wrong, Madagascar the Musical, Beauty and the Beast, and the upcoming production of The Rocky Horror Show.
