Daniel Clarke, Director, Performing Arts
Daniel Clarke joined Tātaki Auckland Unlimited as the Director, Performing Arts in July 2024.
He was excited by the potential of performing arts across Tāmaki Makaurau. In addition to presenting audiences with innovative, entertaining and original content in Auckland Live’s renowned venues, he is inspired to think about the city as a stage, and how TAU can collaborate on a citywide vision for performing arts that connects with the region’s diverse communities.
Daniel has worked as an Artistic Director, Creative Producer, Executive Producer, Director, Curator and CEO across Australia and the UK. His work has had a strong commitment to equity and inclusion, developing and championing bold artistic voices, connecting audiences to new work and the support of innovative creative practice.
Daniel’s previous roles include Head of Programming at the Canberra Theatre Centre; Co-Festival Creative Director of Sydney WorldPride 2023; Creative Producer, Theatre and Contemporary Performance at Arts Centre Melbourne; Executive Producer, Programming at Queensland Performing Arts Centre; CEO/Creative Producer of Theatre Works, St Kilda; Artistic Director/CEO of Adelaide’s Feast Festival of Queer Arts and Culture; and Creative Producer and Artistic Associate at Leicester Haymarket Theatre (now Curve) (UK).
Daniel has held board positions with St Martin’s Youth Arts Centre, Urban Myth Theatre of Youth, South Australian Arts Industry Council and Feast Festival. He was a member of the Helpmann Awards Theatre Panel for a number of years and a peer assessor for Creative Australia.
Daniel has been awarded the Green Room Award for Outstanding Contribution to Cabaret (2020), Sidney Myer Facilitators Prize (2016), Ruby Award for Outstanding Community Impact for Feast Festival (2007) and Dame Ruby Litchfield Performing Arts Award (2002).
