Auckland Live Kids announces full line-up for Pick & Mix 2019

AUCKLAND LIVE KIDS ANNOUNCES FULL LINE-UP FOR PICK & MIX 2019

Auckland Live Kids’ beloved family-friendly programme Auckland Live Pick & Mix is back for its 11th year – and this time with a twist! This year, Auckland will play host to monthly performances, with the line-up including circus, hip-hop, mask making, ballet and so much more! These free performances and workshops are the perfect way to introduce young minds to the magic of performing arts.

Launching in April and running through to December, some of Aotearoa’s finest talents will feature in Auckland Live Pick & Mix 2019, with stories celebrating our uniquely diverse culture.

Kick off the April school holidays and get your dancing shoes on as Aotea Square’s Dance-O-Mat returns for its third year with Pick & Mix show, Fresh out the Box with Freshmans Dance Co on April 13 and 14! All ages and skill levels are welcome to jump on the mat and get their groove on, as Auckland Live takes on its first-ever outdoor Pick & Mix event – rain or shine!

Award-winning mime trio White Face Crew will return to Auckland in May, sharing their hilarious performance Can You Dig It? across Auckland. Let the trio take you back to the ‘70s and ‘80s as their unique style of clowning, physical theatre, dance and comedy relives the days of disco dancing and hip-hop. Afterwards, learn some tricks from the experts and create your own dance routines!

In June the Royal New Zealand Ballet will delight Auckland audiences with performances of Fairy Doll Pas de Trois. Be taken back in time to 19th century Vienna, when a beautiful doll comes to life in an enchanting toy shop in this family-friendly ballet.

Also in June, Atamira Dance Company interprets the elements of earth, sky, ocean, forest and humans through Māori contemporary dance movement and sound in Dancing With Mythology. Learn more about Te Ao Māori and its histories, stories and beliefs, tying in with the observation of Matariki that same week.

Get ready to experience Aotearoa’s incredible Māori poi movement through high energy kapa haka group, the Poi Queens. Celebrate and learn about the incredible art of poi through workshops and performances in July.

Get ready to step into the world of opera when the NZ Opera comes to town for the family-friendly The Barber of Seville. This performance will introduce little ones to a new style of performing arts, as it tells a very funny tale of heroes and villains.

Playing in September, Agaram Productions presents Light vs. Dark: The Adventures of Rama, the tale of two lovers separated by a demon through puppetry, movement and live music. As a tease of what’s to come the following month during Diwali, this is the perfect weekend activity before the school holidays hit.

Professional inclusive performing arts company Touch Compass will show how everyone can express themselves through dance, come October. In Tātahi - (The Beach), multi-sensory techniques tell a tale of aroha and whanaungatanga against the beautiful coastal backdrop of Tāmaki Makarau.

To round out the year, The Dust Palace will bring their thrilling circus show to Auckland in a daring performance of Wallace and Ned in December. Watch as these two petty thieves attempt to carry out a jewel heist with a detective hot on their tail.

Auckland Live Kids Pick & Mix aims to immerse kids into the world of performing arts, by providing families with engaging events across circus, dance, song and more. Featuring high quality performances and workshops, the programme hopes to open new doors for children through the magic of live entertainment.

Auckland Live Pick & Mix is free, however bookings are essential. Tickets will be available one month prior to each show. Everyone attending must have a ticket for entry, with the exception of children aged 23 months or younger.
