The much-loved annual celebration of books, writing and ideas returns this May, showcasing some of the world’s most celebrated storytellers.
Take your pick from a jam-packed programme with this year’s line-up boasting 220 artists from across the country and the world featured in over 170 events.
This year also includes Plot Twist, a new arm of the Festival taking over Q Theatre that bends genres, breaks rules and rewrites the festival script. Think spoken word, tarot, dark academia, workshops, and more.

Laser Kiwi’s brand-new show Everybody Knows will premiere at the Herald Theatre, Aotea Centre as part of the 2026 New Zealand International Comedy Festival, following a successful season at last year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Unique in form, Laser Kiwi (The World’s Only Surreal Sketch Circus) combines off the wall comedy and jaw dropping circus to create wonderfully diverse and bizarre masterpieces.
