Warm with nostalgia, The Civic Tours take visitors on a journey that spans almost one hundred years, from the venue’s inception in the late 1920s and heyday in the 1930s and 40s, bustling with showgirls, cabaret acts, and celebrities, through to the 1990s where the venue’s future lay in the balance before its glorious restoration to the iconic venue that breathes life into the heart of Auckland today. 

Join our entertaining and knowledgeable tour guides as they take you on a journey through the last remaining 'atmospheric' theatre in the southern hemisphere, capture unique photographs and uncover the incredible history that brings this amazing venue to life.

Matilda the Musical

The Kingdom of Bling

The Rocky Horror Show creator Richard O'Brien is doing ‘a bit of a mind flip’ and has created a new satirical musical.

This cautionary tale has all the wacky hallmarks of Rocky Horror and will feature giants, a menacing fox, trolls, and more. There will also be a Q&A with O’Brien where he'll talk about his life, The Rocky Horror Show, and the inspiration for this latest project.

Don't miss this special night of wacky, off-the-wall commentary by one of the world’s most celebrated authors and actors. 100% of all royalties will be going to the Starship Children’s Hospital in perpetuity.

The Holiday in Concert

This Christmas, experience the beloved Christmas romcom, The Holiday (2006) presented live in concert with the film’s legendary Hans Zimmer score played live-to-film by Auckland Festival Orchestra.

A Streetcar Named Desire

Injecting dance and live music into the beating heart of this iconic play, Scottish Ballet has come up with something special — a vital, achingly intense tribute to the eternally misunderstood Blanche, who struggles to live her personal truth amid family turmoil in 1940s New Orleans.
