Road closures and traffic diversions 2020-21

23 Feb 2020 - 31 May 2021

Wellesley St West, Mayoral Drive, and Albert St

Road closures and traffic diversions in and around the Aotea Arts Quarter

From Sunday 23 Feb 2020 until mid 2021, significant CRL works in the inner city will be affecting traffic and bus routes near and around Auckland Live’s venues and the Aotea Arts Quarter.

These will cause significant delays to motorists and public transport users in the CBD.

Please ensure you factor in extra travel time if you are planning on coming to our city venues or the Aotea Arts Quarter.

Or, beat the rush and come into town early to relax over a snack or drink at one of our cafes and bars before the show starts.

From Sunday 23 Feb

City-bound buses from the North Shore, West Auckland, and in the central Auckland will be diverted along Mayoral Drive or Victoria Street, depending on the route.

You can find out more about these diversions here, or plan your public transport journey in advance here.

From Sunday 1 March

The intersection at Wellesley St West, Mayoral Drive, and Albert Street will be closed to all vehicles. Mayoral Dive and Victoria Street will be used to divert traffic.

Access to carparks in the surrounding areas will be unaffected.

The latest works and road updates are available on the Auckland Transport website.

Auckland City Centre Disruptions

Car parks

Due to traffic congestion, the Civic Car Park and other CBD-based parking may be full or difficult to get into when you come to one of our city venues.

You can check on CBD car park availability using the AT real time parking app on the Auckland Live website.

Pedestrian access

People will still be able to access businesses, shops and homes in the area on foot, and walk around the intersection.

Temporary accessible (step-free) footpaths are in place around the Wellesley Street/Mayoral Drive/ Albert St works zone.

Bicycle access

People on bikes will need to walk their wheels along the temporary footpaths or can use the alternative routes along Victoria Street and Mayoral Drive.

Mobility drop-off points & parking

Step-free access from the Civic Car Park is available to the Aotea Centre, Auckland Town Hall and The Civic via a combination of elevators, flat and sloping floors/pavements. Aotea Centre Level 1 can be accessed internally from the car park.

The Wellesley St West entrance to Bledisloe Lane (a popular drop-off point) will be closed for vehicle drop-offs. Elliot Street, another popular drop-off point, will remain open, as well as Myers Lane, accessible from Mayoral Drive.

Limited mobility parking is available at the Civic Car Park on a first come, first served basis.

You can find a map of all accessibility parking in the CBD here.

Plan your trip in advance

All Auckland Live shows have start times listed on their Auckland Live website pages. Please check these start times before you plan your journey to ensure you factor in enough travel time to get to the venue. Some shows have strict lock-out/delayed admittance policies which could restrict your entrance to the show if it has already started. Please approach one of our friendly front of house staff for assistance if you arrive at the venue and the performance is underway.
