Auckland Symphony Orchestra, in association with Auckland Live, presents Happy Birthday Mr Beethoven!
The Auckland Symphony Orchestra belatedly celebrates the 250th birthday of Ludwig Van Beethoven with a special performance of his beautiful Pastoral symphony. This music really tells a story and paints a picture, and we will add to our performance by sharing artworks from Auckland artists of all ages. We are pleased to welcome stunning young pianist Shan Liu as our soloist in the gorgeous second piano concerto of Chopin, as well as the exuberant March in Bb by Prokofiev, and a few birthday surprises.
Shan Liu is 11 years-old. He began studying piano before his 7th birthday, with Ms Xi Jiang and is currently studying with Stephen De Pledge. Shan has been the winner of numerous piano competitions in China, New Zealand, and internationally. Most recently, Shan was the youngest-ever finalist in the 2020 New Zealand National Junior Piano Competition.
