Auckland Writers Festival Family Day includes sessions in the Heartland Festival Room in Aotea Square and the Herald Theatre, and fun activities in the foyer of the Herald Theatre including a colour-in Harry Potter mural.

The Princess’ Blankets: Carol Ann Duffy and John Sampson
The princess is feeling freezing and the hunt is on for someone who can make her warm. A modern illustrated take on the classic fairytale by Carol Ann Duffy, with music by John Sampson. Recommended for ages 6+. Supported by British Council NZ.
A Story World: Apirana Taylor
The multi-talented writer, actor, and musician Apirana Taylor entertains with story readings from his books, performances, and a spot of music in this captivating session for the younger reader.
The Day The Costumes Stuck: Toby Morris
Iggy can’t get his party costume off, his parents haven’t noticed and weird happenings lie ahead. Toby Morris unfolds a fun family story with illustrations. Morris will also be hosting Capsicum Capsi Go, a session for under 5s. Capsicum goes on holiday! Come on an adventure with the coolest Capsi around, featuring a chance to draw your own Capsi.
Genius Bugs: Simon Pollard
Small and creepy with super powers, bugs are weird in a good way. Expert Simon Pollard tells buggy tales, illustrated with many startling close-ups.
