Based on real-life events that took place back in the roaring 1920s, jazz slayer Roxie Hart shoots her lover and along with Cell Block rival, double-murderess Velma Kelly, they fight to keep from death row with the help of smooth talking lawyer, Billy Flynn.

Accessible performances 

Auckland Live and Lunchbox Productions are delighted to present sign language interpreted and audio described performances of Chicago as part of Auckland Live’s Arts Accessibility programme.
 

Audio Described Performance: Thursday 30 August, 7.30pm

This performance gives blind or visually impaired patrons the opportunity to attend Chicago, with trained audio describers broadcasting live commentary during the show, which patrons will hear through an earpiece. 

A complimentary touch tour will also be held before the show where patrons can walk through the set, touch set pieces, feel costumes and handle key props. This will take place from 5.30pm-6.15pm. Meet in The Civic foyer.

There are seats reserved for Audio Described patrons. Guide dogs are welcome, but please notify staff upon booking your ticket. There is a discounted companion ticket available

When booking, please ensure that you tell staff how many headsets you will need, if you plan on attending the complimentary Touch Tour before the show, and if you are bringing a guide dog. Tickets and headsets can be collected from The Civic theatre bar area (stalls foyer) prior to the show.

The Audio Described ticket allocations will be available until 5pm Thursday 23 August, or until the allocation is exhausted. 

Sign Language Interpreted Performance: Thursday 6 September, 7.30pm

During the performance, two trained interpreters, situated on the right hand side of the stage, will interpret the script using New Zealand Sign Language.

Introductory notes for attendees in Sign Language will be given at 6.30pm in the Safari Room.

Seats are allocated for patrons wishing to attend the Sign Language Interpreted performance, with a clear view of the stage and the interpreter.
