After Aotearoa's first Pan-Asian comedy series on prime time television, A Thousand Apologies, premiered in 2008, it took twelve years before Aotearoa got its second Pan-Asian prime time TV series, Creamerie. In the five years since, our screens have been #blessed with shows like n00b, Raised by Refugees, Homebound 3.0, Tangata Pai and Settling. So... have we "made it" yet? Let's find out.
We bring together the creators behind three of these breakout shows to talk candidly about the wins, the roadblocks, and the work still ahead. What has the industry gotten right? What gaps remain? And with several of these series wrapping after season 2, what comes next—for the shows, and for the creators pushing Pan-Asian storytelling forward?
Join us to hear from three of Aotearoa's hottest creators in television: Roseanne Liang (Creamerie, Flat 3), Pax Assadi (Raised by Refugees, Settling), and Sam Wang (Homebound 3.0). Moderating the panel is none other than fellow showrunner and filmmaker, Kiel McNaughton (Tangata Pai, Baddies).
This event is made possible with the support of Auckland Live and Foundation North.
