We The Young has a delightful line-up of hands-on fun happening throughout the festival in Aotea Square! Families can enjoy a mix of creative and interactive experiences.  You will also find outdoor picnic table and umbrellas, so whānau can relax, enjoy lunch, and soak up the city’s atmosphere before, after, or in between shows

Play Activities

Sat 20 – Sun 28 Sep | 11am - 3pm Daily

Join us in the first week of the September school holidays for a delightful lineup of hands-on fun in Aotea Square! Surrounding the We The Young offerings, families can enjoy a mix of creative and interactive experiences during the day.

From Tea Parties and imaginative Junk & Craft sessions to high-energy Circus Workshops with Te Kura Maninirau and fun Taonga Taakaro (traditional Māori games), there’s something to spark every young imagination.

Tue 23 – Wed 24 Sep: Tea Party & Craft Play: 11am – 3pm

Join us for a giant playful crafty tea party for all ages!  Come dressed up, dig into our dress-up box, or make your own paper clothes with us. Craft some delicious food for our giant High Tea stands, discover some secret new friends to dine with and explore our pantry full of ingredients.  Let your imagination go wild and help us make a tea party the Mad Hatter would be proud of!

Thu 25 – Sat 27 Sep: Te Kura Maninirau, Circus Have-A-Go: 11am – 3pm

Hey kids! In the Te Kura Maninirau  "Have a Go " circus workshops, there will be both aerial and ground based circus you can try!

We have juggling equipment such as balls, hoops and spinning plates for you to try on the ground and you will get lots of help to learn to juggle and hula hoop and plate spin from our trained kaiako!  We also have aerial circus on our portable aerial rigs, and our delightful and skilled kaiako will show you new tricks to safely explore aerial circus such as lyra, and silks, and hammock.

Sat 27 – Sun 28 Sep: Ngaa Taonga Taakaro: 11am – 3pm

Join us for a shared activation of Ngaa Taonga taakaro (traditional games), aa ringa (hand games) , aa rakau (stick games) such as Aaria, Matau Maui, aa kohatu, koruru, mutorere, help us weave a kupenga from harakeke a change it into a hinaki poi toa, learn traditional string figures from the Te Whai Waewae a Maaui.

Dance-O-Mat

Tue 16 – Sun 28 Sep | 8am - 8pm daily

Auckland’s much-loved Dance-O-Mat is back – set up on Aotea Square and open for all to connect, move, and dance. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or just keen to cut loose.

Dance-O-Mat is your chance to dance like no one’s watching! Not familiar with it? It’s simple! Connect your phone, pick your favourite song, push the red button and cut loose to the beat.

Surrounding Dance-O-Mat, you’ll find outdoor picnic tables and umbrellas, so whānau can relax, enjoy lunch, and soak up the city’s atmosphere before, after, or in between shows.
