Take a guided tour through the grand old lady of Auckland theatre and musicals - The Civic.

Auckland Live’s bespoke 45-minute tour of this iconic and legendary landmark is packed full of facts, anecdotes and fun, as well as exclusive access to areas usually reserved for the stars.

LOVE! The mighty Civic’ - Tour patron

Listen and learn as our trained tour guides share the stories of The Civic’s fascinating history: its inception and design as an atmospheric theatre in the 1920s; its scandalous war years; its decline during the 60s and 70s; and its triumphant restoration and status as one of Auckland’s architectural treasures.

Taking in the venue from top to bottom, you’ll see The Civic foyers through new eyes as the inspiration for its unique décor is revealed. You’ll get a taste of the glamour and greasepaint found backstage, and hear the tales of what went on in The Wintergarden during WWII, as well as take in the view from the theatre’s opera boxes and soak up the atmosphere of the 2300 seat auditorium, beneath the beauty of the theatre’s famous twinkling night sky.

Entertaining, educational and a rare privilege, The Civic Tours will delight lovers of history and theatre, as well as fans of one of Auckland’s most-loved buildings.
