A new New Zealand work from writer Witi Ihimaera and composer Kenneth Young

When a man loses his wife and two sons, he learns that love is not simply a neurochemical reaction of hormones, but instead grows like a garden and is fed by laughter and memories.

Man, Sitting in a Garden is a new collaborative New Zealand work from award-winning writer Witi Ihimaera and composer Kenneth Young, that examines the nature of love and overwhelming grief.

Outstanding international tenor Jared Holt stars in this impressionistic and poignant score inspired, in part, by the garden paintings of Karl Maughan. The performance journeys through all four seasons and promises that, despite everything, the flowers will bloom again.

The APO will perform this world premiere as part of the Auckland Writers Festival, which will include an on-stage Q&A with the creative team.
