The Auckland Town Hall Organ Trust will be holding a masterclass with one of Australia’s most respected organists Christopher Wrench to encourage organists to improve their playing. Members of the public are welcome to come along as observers, free of charge.Keyboard musicians are encouraged to attend if they are interested in adding the organ to their musical skills.

Organists wishing to be considered for one of the five places in the masterclass must submit their name, where they live, and contact details to: info@aucklandtownhallorgan.nz with the reference MASTERCLASS. Please also include details of what music you would play at the masterclass (6-10 minutes). Travel and accommodation will be the organist’s responsibility although up to $500 towards these costs will be considered for those living outside Auckland.  

Entries must be received by 31st July with notification being given no later than the 15th August. At the masterclass each participant will receive at least 20 minutes of critique and instruction. There will be a written report from Christopher Wrench later, and there will be opportunities to meet him and other participants socially.

All participants and applicants will be given VIP tickets to Christopher Wrench’s concert on Sunday 14 September, the day before the masterclass.


About Christopher Wrench
Christopher Wrench completed his post-graduate study in Vienna. He has won many international competitions and scholarships. Now Brisbane based, his concert tours have included Europe, Scandinavia, Hongkong and Canada, and of course Australia and New Zealand.

About the Auckland Town Hall Organ
The Auckland Town Hall Organ is New Zealand’s largest and most up to date concert instrument. Built by Orgelbau Klais of Germany and inaugurated in 2010, it attracts many international organists. Full details are available on aucklandtownhallorgan.nz
