An actor is alone on stage, and the play explores her failing relationship with a live audience. Like old lovers they seem to have grown apart. Can they rediscover what made them first fall in love? 15 minutes of humour and sadness, Call it a Night starring Jennifer Ludlam, is part of a three installment series produced by Theatre Live Online.
Theatre Live Online
The idea for Theatre Live Online was born in lockdown with a challenge to make new works that are truly theatrical and speak to live performance, yet are totally engaging to watch online.
The provocation we gave the playwrights was simple: 'what really matters?'
Central to our kaupapa is keeping theatre artists engaged and working. We wish to celebrate the unique qualities of live theatre and must adapt, in a COVID -19 world. Theatre Live Online represents an exciting collision between physical performance and online space. The works will be performed live to an audience, and simultaneously live streamed on Boosted Live and Facebook.
We challenged three theatre companies to make a new work for both live and online performance:
Two Productions, Little Andromeda Theatre, Christchurch, 9 Aug
A Slightly Isolated Dog, BATS, Wellington, 29 Aug
Nightsong, Herald Theatre, Auckland, 20 Sep
Please note: the performance at Herald Theatre, Aotea Centre on 20 September is by invite only, those at home can catch all the action via Boosted Live, Theatre Live Online Facebook and the Auckland Live Facebook which will be streamed worldwide from 6.30pm NZST.
