Christian Li Plays

No longer available

Great Hall, Auckland Town Hall

Classical music

The astonishing violinist Christian Li signed a recording contract with the prestigious Decca label two years ago. He was twelve years old at the time. When he plays these showstoppers by Saint-Saëns and Ravel, you’ll understand why. To say his musicality is beyond his years is an understatement.

Fauré’s music for Maeterlinck’s play is best known for the wistful Sicilienne, and the rest of the suite is tender and moving.

Mussorgsky’s gleefully diabolical picture of a Black Sabbath introduces Borodin’s whirlwind symphony, a splendid wash of Russian colour and spectacle.

Subscriptions on sale now until Mon 22 November, individual tickets sales available from 20 January 2022.
