The China National Peking Opera Company (CNPOC) is one of the national ensembles of performance arts directly under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, People’s Republic of China. Since its founding, the company has brought together a large number of outstanding performing artists, playwrights, directors, composers and stage artists who enjoy a high reputation both at home and abroad.
For over half a century, the company has inherited, composed and staged more than 500 new and traditional historical dramas and modern Peking Operas with different themes and genres. Besides its expertise in inheriting, borrowing and shaping characters, the CNPOC possesses an innovative spirit, from which springs a rigorous artistic style alongside profound ideological content and fresh stagecraft. Over years of artistic creation and international and domestic performance appraisals, the theatre has had more than 40 plays and over 100 individuals credited.
The CNPOC immerses itself in cultural exchanges; its arts troupes have performed in 50 countries over five continents, winning a good reputation internationally and contributing positively to the promotion of Sino-foreign friendship.
