David Burchell is Dunedin City Organist and teaches organ at the University of Otago. He is a graduate of Oxford University working for six years with the renowned New College chapel choir. For eleven years he was Organist and Choir Director at Paul’s Cathedral, Dunedin. As Musical Director of City Choir Dunedin he directs performances of major works for choir with a variety of accompanimental groups. David has appeared as organ soloist with the Southern Sinfonia in Poulenc’s Organ Concerto, Saint-Saëns’s Organ Symphony, and in the première of Anthony Ritchie’s Organ Overture.
In this programme, Mr Burchell performs a wide range of organ music from the masterworks of Bach through to modern pieces that exploit the extraordinary tone and power of this organ.
