Long-time Auckland resident, Dr. Indra Hughes, now based in Hobart Tasmania, returns to New Zealand to perform in the fourth and final concert of our Free Organ Concert Series.
His programme has the emphasis on English music alongside compositions from Australia, Germany and Nigeria. A highlight for many will be music from Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar soundtrack.
Indra, an organist, conductor, choir trainer, harpsichordist, and broadcaster, received his early musical training at Blackburn Cathedral, Lancashire and at Oriel College, Oxford where he was Organ Scholar. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and holds the GH Knight Memorial Prize for the RCO Choir Training examinations and a DMA from the University of Auckland.
He came to New Zealand in 1995 to take up the position of Organist and Director of Music at Auckland’s Holy Trinity Cathedral. He founded Musica Sacra, which became one of NZ’s most successful choirs, and was its conductor for 15 years.
