Dr. Indra Hughes is an organist, conductor, choir trainer, harpsichordist, broadcaster and speaker based in Auckland, New Zealand.

Indra received his early musical training at Blackburn Cathedral and at Oriel College, Oxford where he was Organ Scholar. His organ teachers were David Cooper and John Scott. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and holds the GH Knight Memorial Prize for the RCO Choir Training examinations.

He came to New Zealand in 1995 to take up the position of Organist and Director of Music at Auckland Cathedral. He founded Musica Sacra, which became one of NZ’s most successful choirs, and was its conductor for 15 years. He was the first person in NZ to be awarded the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts after a series of organ performances and his thesis on the unfinished ending of Bach’s The Art of Fugue.
