The first concert to kick off the 2026 Free Organ Concert Series in partnership with the Auckland Town Hall Organ Trust presents a solid program for organ aficionados as well as a selection of Chinese works for organ and suona, a traditional Chinese double reed instrument.
Performing on the mighty Klais Organ is young organist and Hong Kong star Eric Chan along with Yazhi Guo, a suona player and one of the world’s leading exponents of the instrument. The pair recently completed an impressive European tour.
Organ works include Mozart’s Fantasie in F minor, K 608, Piernè’s Trois Piéces, Op 29, Liszt’s Prelude and Fugue on B-A-C-H and Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor (Dorian) while the East meets West repertoire will feature Bach/Vivaldi Concerto in D major BWV 972 arranged for organ and suona.
This is sure to be a memorable concert curated in response to the city’s growing Chinese population. Book early to avoid disappointment.
