Show description

Learning from the Land: Taniwha, Mātauranga, and our Whenua

Join us/Silo Theatre on The Civic stage, in front of the mighty Wharenui Harikoa, for a free public talk with Taniwha Mātauranga Māori & Climate Consultant, Dr Dan Hikuroa.

Dr Hikuroa is an Associate Professor in Māori Studies at the University of Auckland with a PhD in Geology; part of his research focuses on the intersection of indigenous knowledge and Western modes of thinking about earth systems.

Dan will explore how taniwha serve as kaitiaki in our world, how taniwha purakau are already influencing our built environment, and what more they can teach us about how we live on and with the whenua.

We should heed taniwha - because if we do, they keep us safe.” – Dr Dan Hikuroa
