In a concert of contrasts, hear Maestro Edo de Waart’s interpretations of Mozart and Strauss masterworks.

We begin with a study of light and shadow in Rudolf Escher’s Musique pour l’esprit en deuil (Music for the Spirit in Mourning).

In Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4 we enjoy the radiant tones of the French horn with music that is bright and infectiously cheerful. We are delighted to welcome back former NZSO Section Principal Horn, Samuel Jacobs, to perform this sunny score.

Completing our programme is Richard Strauss’ spirited celebration of the everyday. His Sinfonia Domestica describes domestic bliss, and it is both a serious and humorous portrait of Papa, Mama and baby.
