Concert Chamber, Auckland Town Hall

Classical music

Experience the transformative power of classical music — and help brighten the life of a child — by joining Rachel Payne and friends for a very special afternoon of opera, song and cabaret, with proceeds benefiting KidsCan and helping create a brighter future for Kiwi kids in need.

Mezzo-soprano Rachel Payne has sung internationally on stages across Europe and the United States and now brings her talents for the first time to New Zealand. She has worked with international opera stars Marilyn Horne, Linda Watson, and Vladimir Chernov, and is now partnering with amazing local collaborators, to bring a world-class musical experience straight to the heart of downtown Auckland, in the historic Auckland Town Hall Concert Chamber. The programme will feature a dynamic line-up of lively and achingly beautiful works, from Romantic and Modernist composers including Mahler, Britten, Vaughn Williams, Saint-Saëns, and Bolcom.

Lindy Tennent-Brown is one of the finest collaborative pianists of her generation. She has performed throughout Europe and the Americas, worked as music staff at all the major British opera houses, and is in demand internationally as a vocal coach, programme curator, and adjudicator. After two decades based in London, Lindy returned to NZ in 2020.

James Harrison is a dynamic lyric baritone who has trained in New Zealand and London, where he studied at the Royal College of Music and the National Opera Studio. He has appeared at the Royal Albert Hall, The Barbican, Wigmore Hall, and The Royal Opera House, and with numerous companies and orchestras in the UK and Europe. He is now in demand throughout New Zealand as a performer, teacher and choral educator, working with top choirs and young singers.
