What’s it like to see your novel transformed for the screen?

Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Underground Railroad was made into ten episodes for Amazon Prime, directed by Barry Jenkins. His follow-up The Nickel Boys is currently being adapted into a film with MGM’s Orion Pictures.

Eleanor Catton wrote the screenplay for the BBC mini-series of her Booker Prize-winning epic, The Luminaries.

Lev Grossman’s The Magicians trilogy was made into a darkly subversive fantasy series by Syfy, with six seasons on Netflix.

As the originators of the stories, how much involvement did they have in the process? Having been through it the first time, what would/did they do differently going forward?
