Share an exciting evening with consummate showman Rufus Wainwright, a creative, unpredictable and audacious composer-performer who has wooed thousands from Avignon to Adelaide and Toronto to Tokyo. In a night of wonderful musical alchemy, this much-loved maestro celebrates his ‘main squeezes’ – opera and orchestras – and his passion for dramatics, divas and show songs.

The concert’s first act features selections from Prima Donna, Wainwright’s first opera. In front a beautiful film by the Italian artist Francesco Vezzoli and starring Cindy Sherman, three classical singers, accompanied by the APO, tell the moving story of fictional diva, Régine St. Laurent in 1970s Paris.

In the second act, Wainwright and the brilliant big band take us back to 1961 when show business legend Judy Garland put on a concert at NYC’s Carnegie Hall that reignited her career and solidified her status as an icon for the LGBT community. He continues Garland's legacy, delivering a selection of her most beloved hits, including Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Chicago.

Join Mr Wainwright on a musical journey that takes you into the beautiful and glorious world of opera and then lets you luxuriate in the nostalgic comfort of old school show tunes.

A stunning piece, memorable, cultivated and luxuriant in its orchestration.
