Using patterns of the dark and powerful contrasted with Schubert’s natural instinct for melody and song, ‘Death and the Maiden’ is a masterwork among string quartets.
This work is paired with Schumann’s delightful, exuberant, and quintessentially romantic Piano Quintet which is widely considered as one of Schumann’s finest compositions and a major work of nineteenth-century chamber music.
Chinese New Zealander Tony Chen Lin returns from Hungary to join Belgium-based string ensemble Sonoro and Aotearoa’s Lara Hall as first violin.
