Head to Aotea Square and enjoy a free screening of The Sapphires, part of Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau’s outdoor summer cinema line-up in Aotea Square. Come early to secure your spot, bring a picnic rug, have a bite to eat, and catch the pre-movie entertainment.
This musical comedy film, based on a stage play, is set in 1968 and follows four Yorta Yorta Indigenous Australian women who form music group The Sapphires. Discovered by a talent scout, they travel to Vietnam to sing for US troops, and they learn about love, friendship and war.
Before the movie starts, arrive a little earlier at 6.15pm to see some inspiring Kiwi musicians in the new short film, We Rock!.
Please note, you cannot BYO alcohol to Summer in the Square. The Terrace Café and Hello Sailor will be open and selling both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as tasty eats and treats.
