Following a mesmerising performance of Shostakovich's Symphony No.5 in D Minor, the Aorangi Symphony Orchestra returns with conductor Sarah Bisley to present a stunning Valentine's Day programme - featuring classical guitar, voice and orchestra.
Soloists are the brilliant young soprano Elizabeth Mandeno and internationally-known classical guitarists Jane Curry and John Couch, both members of the New Zealand Guitar Quartet.
Featured works are Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No.5 for soprano and eight celli, and the exquisite Concerto for Guitar and Small Orchestra.
In the second half of Una Noche Romantica, the audience is treated to the beautiful and famous Concierto de Aranjuez for Guitar and Orchestra, by Joaquin Rodrigo.
The concert opens with Villa-Lobos’ Guitar Preludes Nos. 1 and 4, beginning what promises to be an evening of summer delights.
