Know before you go: Matilda The Musical

Know before you go: Matilda The Musical

Before Matilda The Musical begins, Miss Honey has assembled some useful information to help you plan your journey to The Civic and ensure that you have an excellent time.

Bringing a little genius?

Miss Honey has a limited number of booster seats available for the littlest of our little geniuses. Whilst we will be able to accommodate the majority of requests, you’re welcome to bring your own booster seat with you to guarantee your little one gets a boost!

Please note: Matilda is recommended for ages 6+. All children entering the theatre must have their own ticket and occupy a seat. Children under 3 are not permitted to attend this performance.

All children under 14 years must be with a caregiver at all times. Caregivers must be aged 14 or over.

Get there early

Miss Honey suggests you arrive at the theatre 40-50 minutes prior to the start of the show. This will allow you plenty of time to find your seats before Matilda begins. The Civic foyers and bars will be open one hour prior to the performance start time.

If you are bringing small children, or people with limited mobility, we recommend arriving in plenty of time to allow for bathroom breaks and finding your seats prior to the performance start time.

For those with special access requirements, please call Ticketmaster on 0800 111 999 in the first instance or Auckland Live on 09 309 2677. Alternatively, visit our Accessibility page for specific information about venue access.

Parking and transport

There are a number of car parks nearby. The Civic car park has direct acess into Aotea Centre; however, Victoria Street and Atrium on Elliot car parks are also within walking distance.

For more information about parking and transport to Auckland Live venues, click here. Alternatively, visit Auckland Transport for bus, train and ferry options.

Get your tickets ready

Tickets will be scanned at the entrance of The Civic for this performance so if you’re coming with a group make sure you arrive together or that everyone has their ticket.

Some performances will be sold out, and this may result in having to queue to enter the auditorium.

And finally, please make sure you check your tickets before you go – even geniuses get the date and time wrong sometimes!

Performance start times

As you’re about to find out, Miss Trunchbull doesn’t care for tardiness so all Matilda The Musical performances will start promptly at their designated time (e.g. 1pm, 2pm, 6.30pm, 7.30pm etc.) and a lockout period applies for both the first and second half of the show. Please note that a 15 minute lockout is in place once the first half commences. Latecomers will not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance.

Looking for something to eat and drink?

Get into the city early and enjoy a pre-show drink at Auckland Live - BOX Café & Bar in Aotea Centre or STARK’S in The Civic or head to Federal Delicatessen or Depot for a pre-show meal.

For more information about nearby eateries, click here.

And just remember, no hot food is permitted inside the auditorium.  Please also refrain from bringing noisy snacks, drinks or packages into the theatre, in consideration of other people sitting around you – this is their special occasion too!

Taking photos and using your phone

Selfies before the show and after the show are encouraged! We’d love you to share your experience on social media. You can tag us with #MatildainNZ and #AucklandLive.

Photography and recording of any kind are not permitted once the show starts.  Out of consideration for the performers on stage and other audience members, please turn your phone off completely before the lights go down.
