Take a theatrical trip around Auckland’s most beloved venue - The Civic!

 
Be prepared to be surprised and delighted when Wellington’s theatre darlings, Barbarian Productions, take over The Civic. 
 
They have brought together over 60 performers who will guide your way through the nooks and crannies and secret spaces of The Civic. Watch out for comedian Chris Parker (Hudson and Halls, Silo Theatre), the Stimmung Choir, everyone’s favourite AUNTY Johanna Cosgrove, Auckland’s theatre group Marvellous Theatre (where no one is younger than 60), a hive of performers from Auckland Theatre Company’s Summer School and a lone skier (yes, you read that right).  
 
Grand Opening is fun for the whole family and will make you fall in love with our iconic venue all over again.
 
So, come along and lose yourself in The Civic.

General Information:
Audiences are admitted every 15 minutes and bookings are essential.
Tickets $15.00 plus service fees.

Grand Opening is an immersive and interactive show, it is not seated and there is a reasonable amount of walking and standing involved. Some performance areas are in low light conditions. The performance runs for 30 minutes, and each audience group is limited to 12 people. 

 

Accessibility Information:
Some parts of the performance may include climbing stairs, however this is optional and audiences are able to navigate the show using wheelchair-accessible and less active pathways instead. Our team will be available to assist you the whole time and we encourage you to let us know before you arrive what your requirements are so that we can help to make your experience as enjoyable as it can be. The more information we have from you the better we will be able to accommodate your needs.
- The Civic can be accessed by wheelchairs via lifts and ramps on every floor.
- Guide dogs welcome.
- Accessible toilets are available.
- Companion tickets available on request.
- Parking: there are accessible parking spaces in The Civic Carpark nearby.
