An enduringly popular opera, Carmen is a parade of hit tunes set in an exotic locale with a fearless heroine. Vital and dangerous, Carmen will be free at any cost, setting the path to the opera’s gripping conclusion.

This production by Lindy Hume – well known here for her brilliantly theatrical productions of Lucia di Lammermoor, Rigoletto and La Cenerentola – is sexy and sensual, with all the things you would expect from Bizet’s ravishing opera.

Audio Description

The New Zealand Opera, in collaboration with Auckland Live, is delighted to be offering an Audio Description service for the Tuesday 27 June performance of Carmen. An audio describer will translate, in real time, the magic of this timeless tragedy for our visually impaired patrons. 

 

Touch Tour

Before the opera, participants are invited to take part in a special Touch Tour. This will take place on stage, and includes an opportunity to feel the props, set and costumes before the show.
