Free Organ Concert Series: Michael Stewart

No longer available

Great Hall, Auckland Town Hall

Music

The first concert of 2022 welcomes back returning favourite Michael Stewart, Director of Music at St Paul’s Cathedral in Wellington. Michael is also Music Director of the Tudor Consort and Deputy Music Director of the National Youth Choir.

His programme will be a celebration of César Franck, whose 200th birth anniversary is this year. His longest work, the Grande Pièce Symphonique, will give the Town Hall organ a real workout.

For the rest, Michael has chosen a good mix of Bach, Latry, Couperin and his own arrangement of a Radiohead hit!

About the Organist
Michael holds a Bachelor of Music degree with First Class Honours from the University of Canterbury and a Master of Music degree from Montreal’s McGill University. His recent focus has been performances of the complete works of major composers – J S Bach (in collaboration with Richard Apperley), François Couperin’s Pièces de Clavecin and Sweelinck’s complete keyboard works.
