Who we are

Who we are

Auckland Live is the leader in performing arts, culture, entertainment, and events in Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau, and is Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest performing arts platform.

Our iconic venues and public spaces are our stages for presenting a programme of live arts and entertainment for the enjoyment and inspiration of Aucklanders and visitors, every day.

Whether it’s an international musical at The Civic, family-friendly shows for whānau/family at the Bruce Mason Centre, or a major festival in Aotea Square we take enormous pride and pleasure in opening the doors of the performing arts to everyone, and creating memories that last a lifetime.

Auckland Live Behind The Curtain

Auckland Live and Tātaki Auckland Unlimited

Auckland Live is one of the creative and dynamic teams connected under the management of Tātaki Auckland Unlimited.

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited's portfolio also includes Auckland Art Gallery Toi o TāmakiAuckland Conventions, Venues & EventsAuckland StadiumsAuckland Zoo; and New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui A Tangaroa.

An Auckland Council organisation (CCO), Tātaki Auckland Unlimited enriches life in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland by engaging people in the arts, environment, sports, and events.

Our history

Auckland Live is New Zealand’s largest performing arts organisation. Beginning life as the Aotea Centre (the organisation appointed by Auckland Council to manage the newly-opened venue of the same name in 1990), it assumed management of the Auckland Town Hall seven years later and rebranded as THE EDGE. Aotea Square and The Civic were soon added to its portfolio.

With the formation of the Auckland ‘Supercity’ Council in 2010, THE EDGE became part of the CCO then-known as Regional Facilities Auckland (now Tātaki Auckland Unlimited).

In 2014, THE EDGE name was changed to Auckland Live to better represent the organisation’s place and purpose in Auckland’s cultural landscape. Since then, Auckland Live’s venue portfolio has expanded to include the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna, Queens Wharf and the Viaduct Events Centre on the Auckland waterfront.

We count it a privilege to manage these iconic Auckland landmarks and spaces, and to programme, support, and nurture the performing arts companies and artists who entertain and inspire all who visit our venues.

We are also proud to be neighbours with the Auckland Philharmonia, who relocated their operations to the Auckland Town Hall in 2016 and who enjoy the Great Hall as their performance home.
