Who we are

Auckland Live is the leader in performing arts, culture, entertainment, and events in Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau, and is Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest performing arts platform.

Our iconic venues and public spaces are our stages for presenting a programme of live arts and entertainment for the enjoyment and inspiration of Aucklanders and visitors, every day.

Whether it’s an international musical at The Civic, family-friendly shows for whānau/family at the Bruce Mason Centre, or a major festival in Aotea Square we take enormous pride and pleasure in opening the doors of the performing arts to everyone, and creating memories that last a lifetime.

E tātaki ana a Auckland Live i ngā mahi ā-Rēhia, te ahurea, te whakangahau, me ngā kaupapa o roto o Tāmaki Makaurau, ā, ka tū hei papa matua mō ngā mahi ā-Rēhia ki Aotearoa.

Our history

Auckland Live is New Zealand’s largest performing arts platform. It began in 1997 as THE EDGE, when it managed the Aotea Centre, and took over management of the Auckland Town Hall, followed by  The Civic and Aotea Square, from the Auckland Council.

THE EDGE became part of Tātaki Auckland Unlimited in 2010 when the Auckland ‘Supercity’ Council was formed.

In 2014 THE EDGE changed its name to Auckland Live.

Today, Auckland Live continues to manage the Aotea Centre, home to the distinctive Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre - the country’s largest tiered auditorium with seats for more than 2200 theatregoers -  and the more intimate Herald Theatre. In addition, our venue portfolio has expanded to include Queens Wharf on the Auckland waterfront, and the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna.

It is a privilege to manage these iconic Auckland landmarks and spaces, and to programme, support, and nurture the performing arts companies and artists who entertain, delight, educate, and inspire all who visit our venues.

We are also proud to be neighbours with the Auckland Philharmonia, who in 2016 relocated their operations to the Auckland Town Hall, where the Great Hall is their performance home.
