Jazz Auckland presents Nathan Haines Octet
New Zealand’s much-loved jazz legend Nathan Haines takes to the outdoor stage at Summer in the Square for Anniversary Weekend, Monday 31 Jan. Performing songs from his gold-selling albums Squire For Hire and Sound Travels plus brand new material from this highly anticipated 11th studio album due for release in 2022, Nathan will be joined by his spectacular eight-piece band featuring brother Joel Haines on guitar and vocalists Jess Penson (Kedu Carlo) and Rachel Clarke. Keyboardist/vocalist Arjuna Oakes is playing a solo support set and also joining the Nathan Haines band for a version of their new single 'Give Thanks'.
Nathan Haines needs little introduction to lovers of crossover jazz, soul, and dance music, and he’s cemented his worldwide reputation recently with collaborations with London based producer/DJ duo Chaos in the CBD and UK based producer Ray Mang as well as high rotate co-production remixes with partner in crime Frank Booker for L.A.B.
“I found myself constantly awed by the sound and great skill of every musician on stage. This was easily the best show of music I have seen by any group in years, absolutely years” - Simon Sweetman review of Nathan Haines Octet, June 2021, Wellington Opera House
Jazz Auckland has curated an afternoon of cutting-edge music and DJs with sets from Jaimie Webster Haines, Manuel Bundy, and Hudge.
